The SIG Areal am Rheinfall covers an area of around 120,000 m² directly adjacent to the Rhine Falls. The aim of the SIG Charitable Foundation is to further develop the historically grown industrial site in terms of construction and use, thereby creating a new, diverse mixed-use district in Neuhausen.
The most powerful contiguous photovoltaic system in the region is being built on the roofs of halls 5, 3, 2, 7 and 11 of the SIG Areal am Rheinfall. From July 2023, solar power will be generated, 100 per cent of which will be used by the businesses on the site.
The Laufenhaus, headquarters of SIG Group AG, is undergoing a complete renovation. The building was last renovated in 2001 and now needs to be completely refurbished. Great attention is being paid to the high architectural and historical significance of the over 100-year-old building during the renovation.
At the end of September, all 100 employees moved out of the Laufenhaus building and into temporary office space in administration buildings 1 and 2. This will allow the entire renovation to be carried out efficiently in one stage and is expected to be completed in September 2021.
The Mittelbau project involves plans for a hotel on the banks of the Rhine Falls. At the same time, the diversity of uses and attractiveness of the SIG Areal am Rheinfall will be further promoted and expanded.
The project will have to go through several intermediate stages before it can be realised. The planning phase will take at least two years before implementation can begin.
