An area undergoing change

The transformation process of the SIG Areal am Rheinfall is giving this special place an urban makeover. To make it happen, the whole area, which is about 120,000 square metres, has been split into manageable building plots, and the project will now be carried out over several generations. The main focus is on developing brownfield sites, open spaces and poor-quality buildings in the northern part of the site. This includes the Grünerbaum building complex, which was transformed and revitalised in the first development stage by summer 2018. The former industrial zones were opened up and a promising mixed-use development was created. In a second step, the buildings and open spaces in the southern area will be repurposed. The aim is to preserve the spatial qualities of the existing buildings and continue the history of the site.
