The Rhyality immersive Art Hall breathes life into centuries-old illuminations with ‘Schaffhausen in the Middle Ages’ and brings past worlds back to life.
In the approximately 60-minute animated 360° show, the audience embarks on a fascinating journey through three centuries of Schaffhausen’s city history. Panoramas composed of thousands of pages of medieval manuscripts recreate medieval Schaffhausen. Professionally animated characters voiced by actors and actresses come to life. The unique presentation combines the charm of the original material with the possibilities of state-of-the-art technology. In-depth research, source-based narration and faithful reconstruction of historic Schaffhausen are always at the forefront. Their lively staging makes history more accessible than dry ink ever could.
The aim is to give visitors as realistic a picture of the past as is scientifically possible. The audience experiences the modest beginnings of Schaffhausen, witnesses the consecration of Allerheiligen Abbey by a sitting pope in 1049, and immerses itself in the hustle and bustle of the late medieval trading town. Visitors encounter people from times long past and learn about their fears and hardships, wishes and desires. For groups of 12 or more, the show can also be booked outside regular opening hours. Additional offers such as a historical aperitif based on medieval recipes or introductions to the technical and historical background of the show by the co-curators make ‘Schaffhausen in the Middle Ages’ a special kind of infotainment experience.
